G-Technology drives are formatted at the factory for Mac OS.  Changes to the Mac OS in 10.5 and above have caused an incompatibility with Windows OS, requiring the drive to be "cleaned" before being formatted.  This process is outlined below. 

Before starting this process remove all other external drives except the drive you want to erase/initialize. This does not include the start up drive.  

IMPORTANT NOTE: THIS PROCESS WILL ERASE ALL INFORMATION ON THE DISK SELECTED

 1) Open Disk Management by right clicking on "My Computer" and then clicking on "Manage."

2) Go to Disk Management and resize the window so you can view ALL the drives in the lower right section of Disk Management

3) IMPORTANT!!! Locate the Disk # next to the disk that indicates "GPT Protective Partition"  In the example below it is Disk 1.
Be sure to locate YOUR DISK # and DO NOT just choose Disk 1 because of the sample image below. It is only an example!!!

4) Open a Command window by clicking on the "START" menu and selcting "RUN"...

...then type "CMD" (without quotes) in the window that opens:

 
Click OK

5) In the Command window type"diskpart" and hit enter ENTER

6) Now type "select disk X" and  hit ENTER; (X = the disk number that is GPT Protected)  BE CERTAIN YOU HAVE SELECTED THE CORRECT DISK.

7) Now type "clean" and hit ENTER (this will start the process)

8) type "exit" ENTER (this will close the window)

9) Your G-DRIVE is now ready to be partitoned in the Windows Disk Manager.
