Playing through Safari

When trying to play DRM movies for which the iPad has been authorized, I get the message "Protected Media: This video is protected content and will play in Safari." Why is this if the video is on one of the supported formats? Viewing the movie through Safari is quite inconvenient. Any help will be appreciated.
