Loud noise on startup

When I turn on my drive, both disks make a very loud noise as they startup almost as if they need lubrication???????
Once they start (and sometimes it takes a while for the noise to stop....a bit like a car trying to start) then they run and perform fine with no issues.
I can live with the noise, but am a bit concerned they are being damaged as I've never heard a hard drive make a noise like this before.
Any advice?

Hi Simon,

Thanks for your post. I was unable to see the video, but from your description, it may just be fan noise. How old is your G-RAID? Which version do you have? If it is an older G-RAID, the cooling fan may be dirty, and sometimes you can clean the excess dust from thye fan with compressed air. Please let me know if you have any questions.

My drive is doing something similar, I have blown the fan with air & it still makes the noise on startup, any other suggestions? should I be worried (I am)?

Hi Slick,

Thanks for your post. Do you have a G-RAID2? If so, you can sometimes quiet the fan with compressed air as well as tapping or slapping the fan area with your hand to loosen the dust buildup. If that does not work, then the fan needs to be replaced. Please let me know if you have any questions.

I am getting a loud noise too on start-up and it's freaking me out. I have a G-Raid 500GB. It almost sounds like a fan belt in a car slipping. I'm thinking one of the drives is about to go.
