is this normal?
Hi everyone, Hopefully this is a simple Q&A. I am using my new 8TB Gspeed ES as Raid 5. I know the Raid 5 designation already knocks it down to 6TB capacity but after it was all said and done, it was 5.46 or so. Is it normal to have over half a T eaten up? Thanks
Re: is this normal?
Hi Videojon,
Thanks for your post. The capacity difference you are seeing is because of formatting, this is normal. It is because of the stated capacity of 1MB=1000KB, where the computer is reading 1MB=1024 bytes. The slight difference adds up with the larger capacities. Some of the later operating systems account for the difference and will show the 5.46GB as 6GB. I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any questions.
