What is the default password for the root user?

I would like to know the default password for the root user is.

There is not default password because the first time the G-CONNECT is setup there is no password until the user creates it themselves.

I do realize that the first you log in, it sets up the password for the admin user, but I wanted to know was the default password of the root user. If you know UNIX or Linux, then you would understand I mean.

I do understand what you mean by root password but there is no root access granted to the drive. There is the SSID login password you create after you setup the G-CONNECT and the password for the admin account in order to log into the G-CONNECT itself.

That is all the security in the device, nothing else is needed.

I guess you would not provide me with the default root password and so I’m not going to ask again. The drive is very neat, but it lacks a lot of functionalities that a good NAS device would provide out of the box. For example, it won’t allow you to create users and shares, thereby limit on the ability to grant different privileges for different shares. This is just the basic feature that any NAS device would provide. The list of missing features is very long. I can name a few here.
1. Can’t create users.
2. Can’t create shares.
3. Can’t create groups.
4. Can’t grant privileges per share.
5. Can’t set static IP address.
6. Can’t change WORKGROUP.
7. Can’t setup alerts.
It would really be great, if you could add these features! I’m looking forward to seeing these features in the upcoming releases.

Thank you for your feedback, we will pass the information along to the marketing team. It is possible some features might turn up in a future release.

As of right now it is a media device with NAS like features such as being shareable over the network when attached via ethernet. The more advanced functions of setting up users and shares, etc are not possible in this current incarnation of the device.

Fair enough but you should removed from your user guide that G-CONNECT is reading AVI files
